Tuskegee University senior gains research, leadership, and professional experience through Food and Nutrition Science
Cayden Bowe is an excellent example of the Tuskegee University Food and Agriculture Scholars Program. As a military child, Bowe lived in many places before choosing Tuskegee University because of its certified Food and Nutrition Science program.
A senior pursuing a degree in Food Science, Bowe has gained a wide range of learning opportunities that have helped him overcome financial barriers, build valuable skills, and prepare for a career that will benefit communities.
Bowe was recognized as a CAENS scholar for his outstanding achievement and commitment to academic and professional growth.
He is detail-oriented and research-focused, with hands-on laboratory experience in protein formulation, starch analysis, and the extraction of antioxidant compounds.
Bowe is also proficient in a range of analytical techniques, including RVA, HPLC, LC/MS, SEM, and spectrophotometry. Through these experiences, he has demonstrated success in conducting and presenting original research.
In addition to his research experience, Bowe has shown strong leadership as president of the Tuskegee University Food and Nutritional Sciences Club student organization.
Under his leadership, the organization grew to more than 50 paid student members. His role required him to manage projects, collaborate across teams, and communicate complex scientific information clearly and effectively.
Bowe also helped organize 26 students to prepare pasta and desserts for the Food and Nutrition Advisory Board, demonstrating his ability to lead service-focused projects and bring students together around shared goals.
Through his academic, research, and leadership experiences, Bowe continues to represent the mission of CAENS and the value of preparing students to address real-world food, agriculture, and nutrition challenges.
As he continues his journey, Bowe is building the foundation for a career rooted in science, service, leadership, and community impact.
